Terms & Services

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern access to and use of the Start Driving School website, services, courses, lessons, road-test preparation, and related communications. By using the website or booking any service, you agree to these Terms.

Start Driving School offers driving education and related services in Ottawa, Ontario, including Beginner Driver Education (BDE), online theory, in-car lessons, road-test preparation and vehicle rental, senior re-testing support, and G1 preparation. Website visitors and customers are expected to use the site and services lawfully, honestly, and respectfully.

2. Eligibility and Customer Responsibilities

You must provide accurate, current, and complete information when contacting the school, creating an account, registering for a course, or booking a lesson. If the student is a minor, a parent or legal guardian may be required to complete registration or consent steps.

  • Follow instructor directions and all applicable road, licensing, and safety rules.
  • Present any required licence, identification, or eligibility documents before lessons or road-test support.
  • Arrive on time and in a condition that allows safe participation in instruction.
  • Avoid abusive, threatening, unsafe, discriminatory, or unlawful conduct toward staff or instructors.

3. Services and Educational Scope

Start Driving School provides training, coaching, and preparation services intended to improve driving knowledge and performance. Course completion, lesson participation, or road-test preparation does not guarantee that a student will pass any written or road test, obtain a licence, or qualify for any insurance discount.

Any references to MTO approval, certification, or BDE completion are subject to the rules, standards, and administrative requirements of the applicable Ontario authorities. Customers remain responsible for satisfying all government requirements.

4. Bookings, Scheduling, and Attendance

Lessons, tests, and related services are subject to instructor availability, geographic coverage, weather, vehicle availability, and operational constraints. The school may confirm, reschedule, or cancel appointments where necessary for safety, illness, emergencies, vehicle issues, or other legitimate reasons.

  • Customers should attend at the agreed pickup point or lesson location on time.
  • Late arrival may shorten the lesson or result in loss of time where scheduling does not allow extension.
  • Repeated no-shows or last-minute cancellations may result in forfeited fees, reduced scheduling priority, or suspension of future bookings.

5. Payments, Fees, and Refunds

All prices, package details, and included features are subject to change without notice unless already confirmed in writing for an existing booking or package. Payment may be required in full or in part before services are delivered.

Refunds, credits, package transfers, and cancellations may depend on the type of service purchased, how much of the package has already been used, any administrative work already completed, and any vehicle or instructor time reserved. Unless Start Driving School states otherwise in writing, unused portions may be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Administrative fees, third-party charges, booking deposits, road-test reservation expenses, or amounts already consumed through delivered lessons or completed course access may be non-refundable.

6. Safety, Vehicles, and Instruction Conditions

Safety is a condition of service. Instructors may end, refuse, or postpone a lesson if they reasonably believe that continuing would be unsafe. This may include concerns relating to weather, road conditions, customer behaviour, illness, fatigue, impairment, aggression, or failure to follow basic safety instructions.

When a vehicle rental or school vehicle is provided, customers must use the vehicle only for the agreed instructional or road-test purpose and must not smoke, damage, or misuse the vehicle. The customer may be responsible for losses caused by intentional damage, gross negligence, or conduct outside the instructor’s directions.

7. Online Courses, Website Use, and Intellectual Property

The website, branding, text, lesson materials, videos, graphics, logos, and course content are owned by or licensed to Start Driving School and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may use the content only for personal, non-commercial educational purposes related to the school’s services.

  • Do not copy, resell, publish, record, share, or redistribute paid or proprietary course content without written permission.
  • Do not attempt to interfere with website security, forms, hosting infrastructure, or access controls.
  • Do not use the website for spam, fraud, impersonation, or unlawful activity.

8. Communications and Marketing

By contacting Start Driving School or submitting a form, you agree that the school may contact you about your inquiry, registration, lesson scheduling, service updates, payment matters, and customer support. If you subscribe to newsletters or promotional messages, you may unsubscribe from non-essential communications at any time.

The school may publish testimonials, ratings, or reviews that customers voluntarily submit or publicly post, subject to applicable law and platform rules.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Start Driving School is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, punitive, or consequential damages, including loss of opportunity, lost income, missed test dates, or insurance outcomes arising from use of the website or services.

The school’s total liability for any claim relating to a service will generally not exceed the amount paid by the customer for the specific service giving rise to the claim, except where a higher standard is required by law. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

10. Third-Party Services and External Links

The website may link to third-party platforms or tools, including maps, video platforms, review widgets, forms, payment processors, scheduling tools, or social media services. Start Driving School is not responsible for third-party content, availability, privacy practices, or terms. Use of third-party services is governed by those providers’ own policies.

11. Termination or Refusal of Service

Start Driving School may refuse service, suspend access, remove website submissions, or cancel bookings where it believes a customer has violated these Terms, created a safety concern, provided false information, failed to pay required fees, or engaged in abusive or unlawful conduct.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario, unless another mandatory law applies. Any dispute shall be handled in the appropriate courts or legal forums serving Ontario, subject to applicable consumer protection rights.

13. Changes to These Terms

Start Driving School may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version becomes effective when posted on the website unless another effective date is stated. Continued use of the website or services after changes are posted means you accept the revised Terms.
